BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – Despite a strong pitching performance from Myles Patton, the No. 14 Texas A&M baseball team dropped the series finale to New Mexico State 4-1 Sunday afternoon at Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

The Aggies (9-6) opened the scoring in the third behind a solo homer over Section 12 in right from Kaeden Kent. The junior’s team-leading sixth homer of the season left the bat at 107 mph and traveled 408 feet through a strong north wind.

New Mexico State (8-7) answered in the fourth with a solo shot of its own to even the score at 1-1. The visitors later claimed the lead, 2-1, in the seventh via a sacrifice fly.

In the eighth, New Mexico State added to its advantage, 4-1, with a two-out, two-run single. The Maroon & White failed to answer as they were retired in order in the eighth and ninth.

Patton suffered the loss after allowing two runs on two hits over 6.2 innings of work. The lefty also struck out four batters.

Up Next The Aggies remain home for a midweek contest against Prairie View A&M on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Blue Bell Park.
