MORGANTOWN, WV. (WIBW) - The Wildcats defense was stellar, Avery Johnson shined once again, they beat the Mountaineers, 45-18. K-State would tack on a field goal with 3:03 left in the first quarter after an interception from Jack Fabris. West Virginia would add a field goal of their own to tie it at three 52 seconds before the end of the first quarter. But K-State responded in a hurry in two plays all by Jadon Jackson, totaling 84 yards, 60 of them coming on a touchdown catch to push the ‘Cats ahead 10-3. They would go up 14 after a pick-six from Marques Sigle, the first of his career just two minutes into the second quarter. The Mountaineers did score to bring it to 17-10, but the K-State defense made a goal-line stand before the half to keep it at that score. From there, K-State ran away with it. two touchdowns in third quarter to different tight ends, the first to Garrett Oakley for 16 yards to make it 24-10 and then five minutes later, to Will Anciaux, that would put the K-State lead to 21. Even though West Virginia shut down DJ Giddens on the ground, he did find the endzone from a yard away to make it 38-10 at the 12:09 mark in the third. West Virginia drew it a little closer with a touchdown as the score stood at 38-16. Kansas State would not quit, after just nine rushing yards in the first half, Giddens scored another touchdown to make it 45-18 after a 18-yard score. He had 14 touches and 109 total yards in the second half. K-State is 6-1 for the first time since 2014 and now bowl eligible and one game out of first place in the Big 12 standings. Kansas State will host KU in the Sunflower Showdown next Saturday with time and TV broadcast still TBD.
