No. 7 Florida State softball (42-7, 16-2) may have won the series, but Sunday's game belonged to Louisville (24-23, 7-12). The Cardinals broke FSU's eight-game winning streak in a 2-0 shutout.

Similar to game two, it was a defensive game. The Seminoles had four hits and two errors, while Louisville had three hits. The Cardinals were on the board in the bottom of the first on a bunt play that led to a fielder's choice. Louisville added another run in the fourth inning on a fielding error at first base, resulting in an unearned run.

Pitcher Makenna Reid lasted two innings in her start and finished with two strikeouts. Ashtyn Danley relieved Reid and played through four innings, leading with five strikeouts. Reid was the losing pitcher at 4-2.

The Seminoles had chances to put points on the board, but the Cardinals kept them stranded, and the defense made enough plays to keep the Seminoles scoreless the whole game. Kennedy Harp, Michaela Edenfield, Katie Dack and Shelby McKenzie each had a hit.

What's next for FSU softball

FSU remains the top in the ACC standings with three games left to play in the regular season. The Seminoles will return on the road for an ACC showdown against No. 14 Virginia Tech (39-8, 17-4). Game one begins on Friday at 6 p.m.

If victorious, FSU will clinch its 15th ACC regular season championship title and will receive the No. 1 seed in the ACC Tournament, which will be held in Chestnut Hill from May 7 to 10.

Prior to the Virginia Tech game, FSU will host a showcase in honor of the nine seniors on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Seminole Softball Complex at 6 p.m.
