No matter what happens in the series finale, No. 9 Florida State softball (43-7, 17-2) secured its 15th ACC regular-season title in program history after a dominating 13-4 victory over No. 15 Virginia Tech (39-9, 17-5) on Friday at Blacksburg. For head coach Lonni Alameda, it's her eighth ACC title in her 17-year tenure. The Seminoles were hot at the plate, scoring at least one run every inning through RBI singles, three sac flies, and two home runs from their seniors Michaela Edenfield and Jahni Kerr. All but one batter had at least one hit against the 15th-ranked Hokies , producing 13 runs off 14 hits. Amaya Ross, who set the tone for the Seminoles in the opening inning with a two-run single, led the Seminoles with four RBI. The rest of the two came from two of FSU's three sac-fly plays that sent runners home. VA Tech allowed four errors the whole game. Pitcher Ashtyn Danley had a complete game in the circle. She finished the night with five strikeouts, allowing four runs off eight hits and no walks. The highlight for the Hokies came from ACC's top slugger Cori McMillan, who went 4 for 4 at the plate, including two solo home runs in the fifth and ninth innings. With the Seminoles securing the ACC regular-season title and the top seed in the ACC tournament, FSU will return to Tech Softball Park on Saturday for game two at 4 p.m. in the season finale.
