WICHITA, Kan. (Release) – Wichita State head women’s basketball coach Terry Nooner announced the signings of Cheyenne Banks, Abby Cater, Taya Davis and Treasure Thompson Tuesday afternoon.

“Cheyenne gives us a true anchor in the post,” Nooner said. “She’s physical, rebounds at a high level, has great hands, a soft touch, and finishes well through contact.”

Banks started 41 of 64 games she appeared in for Central Arkansas, shooting 58.4 percent from the floor over two seasons and helping the Sugar Bears on their run to both the 2024 and 2025 ASUN Championship games and two WNIT appearances.

“Her presence on both ends of the floor brings toughness and consistency, and she’s a proven leader who will make an impact not just in games, but in the locker room as well,” Nooner said.

Abby Cater, a graduate transfer guard, comes to Wichita State after two seasons with Austin Peay and the prior two seasons at Trinity Valley Community College.

“We’re excited to add Abby to our squad,” Nooner said. “She’s a physical, athletic slasher who finishes well around the rim and takes real pride in her defense.”

The Fort Washington, Md. native averaged 7.4 points per game over two seasons with the Governors, starting 30 of 31 games in 2024-25. She averaged 45.2 percent from the field in two years, shooting 174-for-385. Cater ranked second on the team in 2024-25 in steals with 1.3 per game and blocks with 0.5 per game.

“Abby’s ability to attack, disrupt, and create offense from her defense sets her apart,” Nooner said. “She’s a tough competitor who brings grit and intensity every time she steps on the court.”

Taya Davis, a graduate transfer guard from Fordham, ranked second in the Atlantic 10 Conference and 58th in the NCAA in assists per game in 2024-25, leading the Rams with 4.7 per game.

“Taya is an elite play-making point guard who brings energy and excitement every time she steps on the floor,” Nooner said. “She takes real joy in setting up her teammates and has a knack for making highlight-reel passes in traffic that will get our crowd on their feet.”

Davis averaged 7.5 points per game as a senior, shooting 35.7 percent from the field, and ranked eighth in the conference in steals per game with 1.69.

“On the defensive end, she’s a lockdown defender who loves to create turnovers and turn them into instant offense,” Nooner said. “Taya’s impact will be felt on both ends of the floor.”

Prior to her time at Fordham, the Decatur, Ill. native started for current Wichita State assistant coach Antwain Scales at Garden City Community College in 2022-23, where she averaged 8.5 points, 7.3 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game with a 1.7 assist/turnover ratio. Before Garden City, Davis spent her freshman season playing for Odessa College where she averaged 8.3 points and 4.6 assists per game.

Treasure Thompson, a 6-foot-2 graduate transfer forward, joins the Shockers after stops at LSU, Eastern Michigan and Texas Southern. The Joliet, Ill. native started 17 of 30 games last season for the Tigers, ranking second in the SWAC in blocks (51) and blocks per game (1.7).

“Treasure brings a unique blend of size, athleticism, and intensity to our front court,” Nooner said. “At 6-2 with a 6-6 wingspan and huge hands, she’s a natural shot blocker who takes pride in protecting the rim.”

She averaged 7.6 points per game, shooting 93-for-210 (44.3 percent) from the field, helping the Tigers make it to the second round of the WNIT.

“She runs the floor with purpose, can face up and score, and attacks the basket with confidence,” Nooner said. “Treasure plays with a chip on her shoulder, and that fire is going to elevate our team on both ends of the floor.”

With the addition of these four graduate transfers, the Shockers have now added seven graduate transfers to the roster this spring, bringing 28 seasons of collegiate basketball experience to the team.
