A man is accused of allegedly shooting and wounding another man at a Vernon Hills shopping center Thursday evening. Jhonattan Garcia-Nava, 36, of North Chicago was charged with attempted first-degree murder, though additional charges were likely, according to Vernon Hills police. The shooting happened just before 6:50 p.m. at the Hawthorn Hills Square Shopping Center, 700 N. Milwaukee Ave., in the north suburb, police said. One person, who was only described as a male, suffered more than one gunshot wound and was taken to a nearby hospital, police said. He remained in critical condition Friday morning. Police say the shooting stemmed from a conflict between two co-workers and that there was no threat to the public. Garcia-Nava was taken into custody around 1 a.m. Friday after the Northern Illinois Police Alarm’s Emergency Services Team served search and arrest warrants on Garcia-Nava at a home in Waukegan, police said. Multiple firearms were recovered. The shopping center was closed for investigation but reopened hours later, officials said.
