A New York man convicted in the 1994 murder of a woman in Fairfax County has been sentenced to 70 years in prison. Stephen Smerk confessed to stabbing 37-year-old Robin Lawrence to death inside her Springfield home. The case went cold for decades, but Smerk was identified as the suspect through DNA in 2023.
