MONROE COUNTY, MI -- A sixth person has been convicted in the murder of 23-year-old Kayla Sedoskey of Monroe, according to the Michigan State Police.

On Monday, 33-year-old Kaylyn Ramsey, of Wakeman, Ohio pleaded no contest to a charge of second-degree homicide in connection with Sedoskey’s 2023 death. Ramsey was schedule to stand trial in the matter starting next month, but entered her plea in 38th Circuit Court instead.

Ramsey’s plea comes after five other people charged in the case have already entered pleas of their own or have been convicted in trial. Last month, Steven Bails, was convicted by a jury on charges of first-degree homicide and conspiracy to commit homicide.

Earlier this month, 21-year-old Brin Smith pleaded no contest to second-degree homicide, and prior to that, two other suspects, Narena Bails and Sierra Bemis also pleaded no contest to second-degree homicide. Alexander Feko has pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence and three counts of accessory to homicide after the fact.

The convictions come after a year-long investigation into Sedoskey’s death. Her body was discovered in the abandoned Boysville Facility in Frenchtown Township on March 2, 2023. Police say Sedoskey was the former girlfriend of Steven Bails who along with the other suspects planned to kill Sedoskey over disagreements they had.

As part of the plan, the group decided to have Smith show interest in dating Sedoskey by catfishing her on Facebook. Sedoskey eventually agreed to a date with Smith, who after picking her up on Feb. 15, 2023, drove her to the abandoned facility. Police say Steven Bails, Ramsey and Bemis were waiting at the facility when Smith and Sedoskey arrived.

Once inside the building, police say Sedoskey was shot three times with a suspected .22 caliber handgun. While those suspects were at the facility, Narena Bails was allegedly at home listening to a police scanner in order to alert the group if police had been dispatched to the scene.

The next day, according to police, Steven Bails, Bemis, Ramsey and Smith all returned to the scene to move Sedoskey’s body and cover with fragrances in hopes of covering the smell of decay. Police say Feko disposed of the handgun used in the shooting in the days following as well.

Bemis, Smith and Ramsey were all arrested and charged in the case in early April 2023, while Feko was arrested in May 2023. Steven and Narena Bails fled to North Carolina after Sedoskey’s body was found, but they were later arrested in April 2023 after a standoff with U.S. Marshal’s.

As part of her plea, Ramsey faces a minimum of 40 years in prison. Ramsey and Smith are expected to be sentenced on May 30, while the other four suspects will be sentenced on May 23.
