Ole Miss wasn’t able to get a series sweep against Auburn, but it did enough to accomplish its bigger goal. Cooper McMurray and Lucas Steele both hit RBI doubles during a five-run rally in the sixth inning, and Chris Rembert hit another in the seventh to give Auburn the lead for good as it beat Ole Miss 13-8 Saturday in Oxford. Auburn rallied from an 8-3 deficit to salvage the finale of a three-game series to close the regular season. The Tigers scored 10 unanswered runs over the last four innings.
Mississippi State mashed Missouri again to maintain momentum going into the Southeastern Conference tournament. Ace Reese, Noah Sullivan and Hunter Hines all homered, and the Bulldogs jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the second inning as they run-ruled Missouri (16-37, 3-27 SEC) for the second game in a row. Sullivan and Reese each had two hits and scored three runs. Sullivan, Reed Stallman and Nolan Stevens had two RBIs apiece. Mississippi State (34-20, 15-15) hit 15 home runs and outscored Missouri 50-12 in the series. MSU tied a single-season team record for homers in a season with 97. The three-game sweep gave the Bulldogs nine wins in their last 10 games and pushed them to the No. 11 seed in the SEC tournament that starts Tuesday in Hoover, Ala. Mississippi State will play No. 14 seed Texas A&M in the last of four opening-round games on Tuesday.
