Jacksonville Jaguars running back appeared on
Pro Football Focus' rankings ahead of the 2025 season. Trevor Sikkema recently put together his ranking of the top 32 running backs coming into the upcoming year. Appearing on this list from the
Jaguars was Travis Etienne at No. 32. "Etienne struggled in 2024, recording just a 63.5 PFF rushing grade, but earned 83.2 and 78.4 PFF rushing grades in the two seasons prior," wrote Sikkema. "His 0.40 cumulative
PFF WAR since 2022 ranks 12th among running backs, so we'll give him the benefit of the doubt that his 2025 campaign will be better than 2024." After rushing for over 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons, Etienne had a not-so-efficient performance in 2024, averaging just 3.7 yards per rush--although the play of the offensive line unit didn't help things either. Among eligible running backs, Etienne ranked 51st in average yards after contact, 45th in missed tackles forced, and 30th in rushes of 10-plus yards,
according to PFF . The struggles last season, coupled with a coaching change and the Jaguars' selecting two running backs in the NFL draft, led to speculation around what the future held for Etienne during this 2025 season. However, during OTAs, Liam Coen quickly shot down any conjecture around a trade. "He's done a great job," Coen said of Etienne. "I don't really understand some of the stuff I've seen out there; that's absolutely inaccurate." We don't exactly know how the playing time between Etienne, Tank Bigsby, and rookie Bhayshul Tuten will shake out at this time, but I would assume that all three see somewhat regular opportunities. After making six new additions to the offensive line unit, which can hopefully help get Etienne and this Jaguars' running game as a whole going this upcoming season. It also sounds like we are going to see Coen finding different ways to get Etienne the ball in the space, which is where he's always been at his best with his ability to make defenders miss. "Every day, everything we've asked him to do, he's done at a good click for us,"
said Coen ." The ability in the screen game, to hand him jet sweeps, his vision so far in the run game has been good. He's done everything we've asked him to do and more. There's been a consistency." As is the case for any offense, consistent success starts with a good run game keeping that unit ahead of the sticks and out of predictable passing situations.
