School’s (nearly) out for summer, and Orlando Baxter wants to celebrate with you. The former high school teacher has broken up fights, monitored detention (for a young man who took “crack a window” a little too literally) and, per the title of his Drybar special, served his time as a “Glorified Baby Sitter.” His jokes will resonate no matter the experience: as students, parents or especially those at the front of the room. Baxter tells of the role he played in the school experiences of many and the impact the right teachers had on him. The best, he said, “saved my life and cared about me as a person.” Whether you’re a teacher grateful for a summer reset or a parent pushing through to the finish line with their kids, this is your time to laugh about, reminisce on and appreciate the year with folks who feel your pride (and occasional pain).

“Orlando Baxter and Friends: A Teacher’s Appreciation Show,” at 8 p.m. May 8 at The Comedy Studio , 5 John F. Kennedy St. , Harvard Square, Cambridge. $20.
