PULLMAN, Wash.-- A slow start by No. 6 Oregon State baseball would be its undoing in game two of the team's series against Washington State.

Trailing 10-2 heading into the 9th inning, the Beavers would score seven runs to cut the Cougars' lead down to one, but would ultimately lose in the end 10-9.

Oregon State struggled on the mound all night long. Starting pitcher Jacob Kmatz struggled with his command through his five innings of play. He would finish the night allowing five earned runs on eight hits while walking three batters.

Relief pitching wasn't much of a help either as Ian Lawson, AJ Hutcheson and Matthew Morrell would allow five more on five additional hits.

On the offense, the Beavers sole spark until the 9th inning belonged to Gavin Turley who knocked in Oregon State's only two runs until that point.

Turley finished the night 2-4, with four RBIs and one home run.

With this loss, Oregon State falls to 35-12 overall and 13-9 in the Pac-12 Conference. The loss also pushes the Beavers all the way down to fourth place in the Pac-12 standings behind Arizona, Oregon and Utah.

The Beavers will return back to action on Sunday as they try to take the series. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
