Prediction
PASS . The Capitals (-150) will get a much needed victory at home on Monday night, but rather than pay that juice, I’ll take my wager to the spread.
BET CAPITALS -1.5 (+
150 ). Washington and Ottawa meet for the 3rd time this season, but this one shifts to Capital One Arena, where the Capitals are 18-7-6. Ottawa has struggled on the road, going 2-5 in its last 7 away games. Washington presents a tough challenge, leading the league in scoring at 3.58 goals per game (GPG) while ranking 4th in defense, allowing just 2.57 GPG. Ovechkin continues his historic chase of Gretzky’s all-time record. He’s heating up with 5 goals in his last 4 games and has scored in both matchups against Ottawa this season. Given the Capitals’ strong home record, Ottawa’s road struggles, and Ovechkin’s form, there’s value in taking Washington on the puck line at plus odds.
BET OVER -5.5 (-
120 ). This total seems too low, making the over a strong play. Both Ottawa and Washington have hit the over in 8 of their last 10 games, and their last meeting saw 9 total goals. With trends favoring another high-scoring matchup, taking the Over is the best move.
