Overdrive Raceway in Colorado Springs goes the extra mile.
One man with a need for speed is helping people swap their wheel chairs for something faster -- an Italian-built electric go-kart capable of 55 mph. Jim Mundle, owner of Overdrive Raceway Colorado Springs, the latest and greatest go-karting facility to rev up the front range, has made a special investment in hand-controlled karts to ensure that nobody is left in the pits.
Mundle says that people with disabilities are too often forced to sit on the sidelines and live life as spectators, and he wants to change that. Due to a serious MRSA infection, Mundle is a double amputee himself and uses prosthetics in place of his legs.
"One thing I know as an amputee, is society wants to tell you no in a lot of different ways. If I go to an amusement park, most of the time they will tell me I can't ride the rides." Mundle said. However, at the push of a button on a remote control, they can be slowed down to accommodate for kids. Mundle told us that he even let one family have the track to themselves before business hours to accommodate for a child with autism, and that he wants to open up his karts to anyone who faces any type of challenge.Probably the biggest impact is them saying that's something they never thought they'd be able to do again. It's really great to see that," Mundle said. But it's apparent Mundle's mission doesn't stop there. Overdrive also offers exotic car rental, including a 572hp Lamborghini Murcielago, which we caught Mundle using to help brighten someone's day:
