An officer at 2:39 a.m. on May 26 spotted an SUV driving eastbound on Lorain Road near Christman Drive at 54 mph in a 35 mph zone.

The vehicle was crossing over lines, failing to maintain one lane, and not using turn signals, according to a police report. As the officer approached the SUV, he smelled an alcoholic beverage coming from the female driver, and her eyes were red and glossy, according to the report. In addition, the SUV smelled of burnt marijuana. The officer observed burnt ash in the center console and marijuana shake and a marijuana cigarette on the floorboard. However, the woman denied drinking or smoking.

After the woman had difficulty performing field sobriety tests, she was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, speeding, failing to drive in marked lanes, and failing to use turn signals. She refused a breath test.

Officers at 11:30 a.m. on May 21 responded to an apartment building on Columbia Road regarding a stolen car.

A resident said his red 2021 Kia Forte had been stolen overnight. The man said he left his apartment to go to work at 10:26 a.m. and found the car was missing from the parking lot. Flock cameras (automated license plate reading cameras) had spotted the car overnight near the apartment building and later in Cleveland at Kinsman Road and Opportunity Corridor.

Officers entered information about the stolen car into a police database and turned the information over to the department’s detective bureau.

Officers at 5 p.m. on May 27 received a call from the Going, Going, Gone store reporting that a man had just walked out of the store wearing a new pair of shoes that he hadn’t paid for.

Officers found a suspect matching the description across the street on Great Northern Boulevard and arrested him for petty theft. The shoes were valued at $51.99. The suspect was charged with petty theft and warned that he could be arrested for trespassing if he returned to the store.
