TOWN OF KENDALL, Wis. (WKOW) — A UTV crash on the Pecatonica Trail led to the death of a passenger on Saturday, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office. It happened near Brunton Lane around 5:30 p.m.

Keith L. Konczak, 50, of Utica, Illinois, was operating the UTV when he lost control, causing it to overturn into the river, the sheriff's office reported.

His passenger, Wendy S. Baele, 55, of Kewanee, Illinois, was found unresponsive. Despite life-saving efforts, Baele was declared dead at the scene.

Konczak was taken to Southwest Health in Platteville with non-life-threatening injuries and later released. Alcohol, speed, and careless operation are believed to have contributed to the crash, the sheriff's office reported.

The investigation is ongoing, with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office involved. The case will be reviewed by the Lafayette County District Attorney’s Office for potential charges.
