Kansas City Chiefs quarterback
Patrick Mahomes has announced a significant expansion of his business ventures, revealing plans to increase the presence of Whataburger restaurants in the Kansas City area. This move is part of a joint venture between Whataburger and KMO Burger, the franchise group in which
Mahomes holds a stake. "As a longtime fan and investor, I'm thrilled to take this next step with Whataburger,"
Mahomes said in a statement. "The brand means a lot to me - not just for the food, but for how it brings people together."
A huge expansion begins
The collaboration will see Whataburger contributing its 16 company-owned restaurants in the Kansas City and Springfield, Missouri markets, while KMO Burger will add its 13 existing locations. The combined 29 restaurants will operate under the Whataburger brand, with KMO Burger, LLC overseeing their management.
Mahomes added, "Our team at KMO Burger is ready to keep raising the bar. I'm proud to be part of a team that's focused on both growth and community."
Debbie Stroud , Whataburger president and CEO, expressed confidence in the partnership, stating, "This partnership reflects the strength of our franchise model and the incredible trust we place in our partners. KMO Burger, LLC has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the communities they serve and to the heart of the Whataburger experience - amazing food, exceptional service, and a welcoming atmosphere." She further noted, "We're confident this joint venture will only deepen our connection with our fans in Kansas and Missouri."
Mahomes' off-field ventures reflect commitment to Kansas City
Mahomes' involvement in expanding Whataburger aligns with his broader commitment to the Kansas City community. Beyond his football achievements, he holds ownership stakes in several local sports teams, including a 1% share in the
Kansas City Royals and involvement with the
Kansas City Current women's soccer team. His business interests also extend to the upcoming opening of a steakhouse, 1587 Prime, in collaboration with teammate
Travis Kelce. The expansion of Whataburger under KMO Burger's management will involve transitioning current restaurant staff to become employees of KMO Burger. A dedicated team is in place to ensure a smooth transition, providing necessary resources and support throughout the process.
Mahomes' latest venture not only brings a beloved restaurant chain closer to his team's home but also underscores his dedication to fostering community growth and engagement in Kansas City.
