Patrick Mahomes has made his first major public appearance after the Kansas City Chiefs ' heartbreaking loss to the Philadelphia Eagles at the Super Bowl .

This came in the form of a college basketball game between his alma mater Texas Tech and Houston on Monday. The All-Pro quarterback was seated courtside along with his wife, Brittany Mahomes, as they enjoyed the action.

The game turned out to be a nail-biter as both teams did all they could to secure a win. So much so, that even Mahomes found himself emotionally invested in the contest in the dying minutes of the close game.

Mahomes got so into it that ESPN decided to focus on his reaction after the Red Raiders scored a basket instead of showing the succeeding play.

The fans weren't too pleased with ESPN for their decision to show Mahomes on the broadcast at such a crucial juncture of the game. This led to some folks on social media comparing the Chiefs quarterback to Taylor Swift and her exposure whenever she attends NFL games.

"Patrick Mahomes oddly enough playing the Taylor Swift role at this Houston vs. Texas Tech game Camera can't get enough of him either," a comment on X read.

"We are seeing Patrick Mahomes more than we saw Taylor Swift at the Super Bowl. 🤷‍♀️" a user said .

"About as bad as CBS cutting to the Taylor Swift suite and missing Mahomes' reaction to a walkoff Super Bowl touchdown in overtime, really," posted another.

Kansas City Chiefs player and Texas Tech Red Raiders alumni Patrick Mahomes II.

"They do this ALL THE TIME. Even in the limited number of games I am able to watch, several times every season they will cut to a random crowd shot after a made basket and miss a backcourt turnover. It's maddening," complained a user.

"It’s one thing showing the crowd react on a different view of the court. Another to blatantly ignore what’s going on on the court," another wrote .

"They just Taylor Swift’d ol Pat Mahomes," a reaction read.

Much like Mahomes on Monday night, Swift has also been the subject of criticism from NFL fans whenever she attends Chiefs games. While it is not her fault that the broadcast looks to capitalize on her mere presence at any given opportunity, the fact of the matter is that there is a fair number of fans who have grown tired with the "Fortnight" singer's suppsoed overexposure.

The same can be said for how some college basketball fans felt about Mahomes on Monday night.

As for the game, Mahomes' Red Raiders ended up on the losing end after a hard-fought encounter against the Cougars, 69-61.
