And his wife was completely shocked by the announcement.

People Magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive" has long been a coveted title, and this year, 52-year-old actor Paul Rudd claimed the throne.

The magazine cover was revealed during The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Tuesday night.

During the episode, Colbert named himself "sexy adjudicator" and challenged Rudd to a series of "sexiness tests" which included an interview, a physical test, a Westminster dog show with Rudd acting as the dog, and a photo shoot where Rudd dressed as a construction man and a monk. The test ended with Colbert stating that Rudd tested "negative for sexy" and as the actor walked away, Colbert announced that it was simply the last test—a test of humility. Colbert then announced that Rudd is the Sexiest Man Alive and gave him a sash and flowers.

Now that he's been named the sexiest man alive, Rudd joked that he's about to start living the high life. 

"I'm hoping now that I'll finally be invited to some of those sexy dinners with Clooney and Pitt and B Jordan," the actor said. "And I figure I'll be on a lot more yachts. I'm excited to expand my yachting life. And I'll probably try to get better at brooding in really soft light. I like to ponder. I think this is going to help me become more inward and mysterious. And I'm looking forward to that."

Rudd also told fans that his friends are going to give him so much grief for grabbing the coveted title, but he's going to own it and even get some business cards made. 

"As they should. I would," he said. "I mean I'm going to lean into it hard. I'm going to own this. I'm not going to try to be like 'Oh, I'm so modest.' I'm getting business cards made. But all of my friends will destroy me and I expect them to. And that's why they're my friends."

The news about Rudd's title shocked many people who previously thought the winner would be Chris Evans. However, no one was as surprised as Rudd's own wife.

"She was stupefied," the actor said. "But you know she was very sweet about it. After some giggling and shock, she said 'Oh, they got it right.' And that was very sweet. She was probably not telling the truth, but what's she going to say?"

People all over the world took to social media to congratulate Rudd on his new title, including some of his fellow costars. 

Paul Rudd is known for playing the love interest in Clueless, Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and an all-around funny guy in films such as I Love You, Man, and Sausage Party. He will also star in the upcoming Ghostbusters revival, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which will hit theaters on November 19, 2021.
