PEORIA - For nearly a century, the Herold family name has been on the business scene in Peoria.

A framed timeline at Chris Herold’s newest venture makes the family's history crystal clear.

Chris Herold's grandparents opened Herold’s Food Mart in 1926. Three decades later, the business became Herold’s Donuts and Bakery.

Herold’s parents opened Pizza Inn in 1967 when he was just 2 years old.

As an adult, he has kept the family name in the food business. Herold opened Bloody Mary Brunch Company on Nov. 1, joining his other businesses, West Town Tap and Herold's Pizza Oven.

"We know where we came from, and we're just proud of Peoria and just proud to continue to grow in it," Herold said.

What's on the menu?

Herold considered opening his own brunch business after watching breakfast concepts grow in popularity in recent years. He also noticed the popularity of breakfast at West Town Tap .

Bloody Mary Brunch Company, located at 708 W. Glen Ave., features southern-inspired breakfast and lunch.

“We want it to be rich, and I wouldn't call it the healthiest,” Herold said. “It's supposed to taste good and be enjoyed.”

True to the business name, the eatery offers bloody marys, along with mimosas and other cocktails. Herold wants Bloody Mary Brunch Co. to be a place “where people can relax a little bit more and have a good time and not just eat and run.” A full menu is available on the restaurant’s website .

The restaurant was formerly home to Family Video. Herold sees it as an ideal location.

“It's a great corner,” Herold said. “I like that it sits up nice and high on the intersection and you can just see it from every stoplight.”

Bloody Mary Brunch Company's full menu will be available from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Once things are up and running, Herold expects the restaurant’s bar to remain open until midnight or 1 a.m. with a light food menu.
