Phil Collins shared a rare update on his health in an interview with MOJO magazine that was published on Tuesday, February 18. The entertainer mentioned that he'd been wanting to get back in the studio but that he hasn't been able to due to his ailing health.

"I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens. But I'm not hungry for it anymore. The thing is, I've been sick. I mean very sick," he told the outlet.

Collins, 74, had a solo career in addition to being a part of the group Genesis, who were popular in the '70s, '80s, and '90s. And while he was still making music for years after he left Genesis in 1996, things have gotten more complicated for him. In fact, Collins hasn't been able to perform in a couple of years.

"If I can't do what I did as well as I did it, I'd rather relax and not do anything," Collins said in his Phil Collins: Drummer First documentary, which was released on YouTube in December 2024. "If I wake up one day and I can hold a pair of drumsticks then I will have a crack at it. I just feel like I've used up my air miles," he added.

Collins has dealt with a variety of health issues over the years. Many of said issues stem from a spinal injury that he suffered in 2007 while on tour with Genesis. That particular injury prohibited him from playing drums — one of the biggest things he's known for.

"After playing drums for 50 years, I've had to stop," he said in 2009, according to the Daily Mail . "My vertebrae have been crushing my spinal cord because of the position I drum in. It comes from years of playing. I can't even hold the sticks properly without it being painful, I even used to tape the sticks to my hands to get through. Don't worry, I can still sing," he added.

Collins would go on tour again, however, launching Not Dead Yet in 2016 and spending time on the road through 2019. During one of his tour stops, Collins made headlines when he fell backwards while on stage.

The last time that Collins was on stage was in May 2022. He took the stage with Genesis at London's O2 arena, but had to sit down throughout the show.

"Tonight is a very special night," he said, addressing the audience . Met with loud cheers, Collins declared it would be the last show for Genesis. Fans now realize that it may have even been the last show for him, too.
