One Lancaster-Lebanon League girls basketball squad punched its ticket to the Sweet 16 of the PIAA playoffs on Saturday. It took a pair of overtimes, but Northern Lebanon fended off District 4 champ Central Columbia to advance to the second round in Class 4A on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Manheim Central and Lancaster County Commonwealth Christian Athletic Conference representatives Lancaster County Christian School, Veritas Academy and Mount Calvary Christian all saw their seasons come to a close with opening-round setbacks. Northern Lebanon 47, Central Columbia 42 : In Bloomsburg, Olivia Shutter had a steal and a bucket, and her ensuing free throw to complete the three-point play with 15 seconds to go in regulation tied the game at 36-36 to force OT, and the Vikings went on to fend off the host Blue Jays. Shutter scored 17 points and Kasey Weimer added 15 points for NL, the District 3 third-seed and L-L League semifinalist. The Vikings (23-5) will take on District 1 champ Villa Joseph Marie in the second round on Wednesday at a site and time to be announced. Villa topped Carver Engineering & Science 58-30 in the first round. In Class 5A ... Crestwood 51, Manheim Central 39 : The host Comets made their 28-17 halftime lead stand up against the pesky Barons, who were within 31-30 in the third quarter and 43-39 in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t get over the hump. Check the foul shots in this clash: Crestwood, the District 2 champ, was 16-for-24. Central, the District 3 No. 4 seed, was 0-for-2. Carsyn Zeiset scored a career-high 13 points for the Barons (17-10). Also in Class 1A ... Sacred Heart Academy 37, Lancaster County Christian School 32 : At Lower Merion in Ardmore, the Lions had a 14-12 lead at the half. But, SHA, the District 1 champ, closed the game on a 25-17 clip and eliminated LCCS, the District 3 No. 4 seed. Alivia Fisher scored 14 points in her swan song for the Lions. Northern Bedford 47, Mount Calvary Christian 35 : In Loysburg, the host Panthers had a 22-16 lead at the half, and outscored the Chargers 25-14 after the break and ended Mount Calvary’s season. NB did an excellent job on Kylie Masters , holding the Chargers’ junior 1,000-point scorer to four points; Clara Webb scored 15 points for Mount Calvary. Lourdes Regional 51, Veritas Academy 39 : Don’t let the final score fool you. The Monarchs trailed by just 37-36 in the fourth quarter, before the host Red Raiders closed the game on a 14-0 blitz and ended Veritas’ season in Coal Township.
