Plans for a Smucker's Manufacturing facility in Longmont

Smucker's, you've heard the name. They’re the American manufacturer of fruit spreads, ice cream toppings, beverages, shortening, peanut butter, etc. In short, the manufacturer of all things good. Well get ready, because the company has plans to move a little bit closer to you! The Smucker's headquarters are located in Orrville, Ohio but the company is planning on opening a $340 million manufacturing operation in Longmont that could bring up to 500 jobs to the area.   The news was publicized last Tuesday that J.M. Smuckers Company wanted to open a production facility for their popular frozen peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, Uncrustables. "We are thrilled to build our first manufacturing facility in Colorado and greatly appreciate the support we have received for this exciting project from officials representing Longmont, Weld County, and the state of Colorado," said Mark Smucker, president and CEO, in a statement. "We look forward to being part of the growing, greater Denver community." The deal still depends on the sale of the property on the east end of Longmont in Weld County at the Concept Industrial Park. But so far, the facility seems to have the support of  Longmont Mayor Dennis Coombs and Governor John Hickenlooper. "We are pleased Smucker's has chosen Colorado for this additional manufacturing investment," said Governor John Hickenlooper in a prepared statement. "This news helps demonstrate that Colorado, with its innovative ecosystem, skilled workforce and exceptional business climate, is a state where industry can grow and thrive. Exciting news for Smucker’s and the city of Longmont's manufacturing economy.
