The United States Botanic Garden in Washington, D.C., is so lush and gorgeous at this time of year -- and best of all, it's free! Perfect summer outing, indeed.

You can stroll through the indoor gardens and galleries in their Conservatory, as well as wander their National Garden and Bartholdi Park outdoor spaces. It will be easy-peasy to spend an entire day in this amazing place and only see some of their gorgeous sights. You'll definitely need to make plans to come back and finish what you didn't get to on your first visit!
The Conservatory holds a plethora of plants, ranging from an orchid collection of 5,000 to a landscape holding ancient plants that have survived for 150 million years! The National Garden is home to Mid-Atlantic plants, from yellow coneflowers and Dutch irises to sundrops and Lenten roses, and also features the Butterfly Garden. Or you can spend some quiet time in the Bartholdi Garden across the street in the company of beautiful shrubs, vines, roses, and trees.
