SPRINGFIELD, N.Y. (WBNG) -- The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation announced the arrest of two people from an animal cruelty case in Springfield. On Feb. 27, New York State Police executed a search warrant at multiple properties on State Highway 80. Eight dogs, thirteen cats and one turtle were removed from the properties when officials realized they needed immediate medical care. The animals were turned over to the Susquehanna SPCA. Officials said on March 25, Brian J. Fleming, 64, of Springfield, and Theresa E. Fleming, 61, of Springfield, were both arrested at SP Richfield Springs. Each of them was charged with two felony counts of agriculture and markets law of aggravated cruelty to animals and 11 misdemeanors of agriculture and market law of torturing or injuring animals/failure to provide sustenance. The New York State Police thanked the Susquehanna SPCA, the Otsego County of Emergency Services and the Department of Environmental Conservation for their assistance in this case.
