Approximately 1,100 customers near Marcola Road in north Springfield were without power the morning of May 6 after a car reportedly crashed into a power pole. The crash knocked out a power pole on Marcola Road at approximately 6:45 a.m., according to a release from the Springfield Utility Board. The 1,100 customers affected include Kingsford Manufacturing, homes on Ambleside Drive and residences in the Marcola Meadows subdivision. Crews were working to resolve the issue but there was "no ETA for restoration" as of 8 a.m. The utility urged customers to plan for "an extended outage lasting most of the day." Updates should be posted at subutil.com as they become available, according to SUB. Traffic lights were affected and SUB has asked commuters to use alternate routes if possible.
