Leaf Your Worries Behind!
The autumn season is creeping in! Summer always flies by, doesn't it? And as sad as I am to say goodbye to it, I know the fall will bring even more awesome ways to enjoy the beautiful world around us. So, I want to take a look at some ways to enjoy and experience the coming season before it slips away, too. And then the longest season of all is here before we know it: ski season. I'm getting ahead of myself. But it's important to plan and set intentions for how you want to enjoy each time of year; otherwise, it will pass you by. Okay, enough of that. It's almost fall, ya'll! Let's consider how to immerse yourself in creative and mindful activities this autumn.
Create Something
There’s something truly magical about this season that sparks inspiration. Let’s explore some delightful ways to unleash your creative side this fall!
Get Crafty
Crafts are a great way to embrace your inner child and relax. I love it when hiking trails are decorated with tons of fallen leaves. Last year I picked up a lovely yellow Aspen leaf and stuck it in my wallet for awhile. Of course, it eventually crumbled and had to be tossed. I didn't expect it to last, as I made no intention to preserve it. If you want to make an effort, however, you can create an actual keepsake out of your leaf rather than having a short-term wallet-leaf relationship that's even shorter than the autumn season itself. Southern Living suggests various methods of preserving leaves, including soaking them in a mixture of 2 parts water and 1 part glycerin. Once you have your preserved leaves, get creative with how you want to use them! You may hang them on your walls, use them as bookmarks, or even make accessories. The possibilities are endless! Beyond picking up fallen leaves, there are plenty of other ways to get artistic. Find somewhere scenic to sit and create. Whether you prefer sketching, oil painting, or any other artistic medium, the breathtaking fall scenery offers a magnificent opportunity to capture its beauty through your own creative expression.
Bring Your Notebook
One of my favorite creative outlets is writing. Shocker! And although typing on computers (and sometimes, my phone), is my common way of writing or taking notes, there's something extra special and mindful about going back to basics. Bring your favorite notebook and a pen, and let your thoughts flow. Maybe you like writing poetry, journaling, or even want to write a story out in the fresh air. Whatever you're into, the colorful autumn landscape offers endless inspiration for creative writing sessions.
Create a Nature-Themed Playlist
What music does the surrounding scenery bring to mind? Soak in the world around you, breathe in the smells, listen to the sounds, and think about what songs pair well with them in your mind. It doesn't have to make sense to anyone else! Some may be more obvious with words in them indicating the season, while others emanate a cozy vibe (or whatever vibe is your fall vibe). You can even include nature sounds for a bit more realism. The playlist is your oyster. You can listen to it later while exploring other creative pursuits (especially if you're behind a desk and want to create an atmosphere). Check out our fall and winter playlist for some inspo.
Enjoy Active Serenity
Autumn is also the perfect time to get moving. Whether you’re a seasoned adventurer or just looking for a refreshing stroll, there are so many ways to stay active and connect with nature this fall. Here are some great ways to find that blissful balance between activity and tranquility!
Take a Hike
Take advantage of those fall hikes while you can! It is a great exercise and an incredible way to immerse yourself in the beauty of Colorado's fall foliage. And don't make it a race! Take time to slow down, stroll, if you will, and breathe in the scents and take in the scenes.
Ride a Bike
This activity is a bit more aggressive than hiking, but you can choose which level you'd like. Perhaps you prefer a leisurely ride along a gentle trail. If you crave adrenaline, a thrilling mountain biking adventure may be more your style. While you will be taking in the scenery at a quicker pace than hiking, you can also see more in less time.
Do Yoga
I've taken yoga classes in the mountains on a few occasions, and I've loved them. Yoga and nature both feel very spiritual or magical to me, so they make the perfect pair! Yoga is great for mindfulness, as you bring extra attention to your body and feelings. When it's paired with the great outdoors, it becomes an enchanting experience. See if there are any yoga classes in the mountains, or head to your own peaceful area and create your own practice.
As the crisp air sets in and the vibrant hues of fall envelop Colorado, take this opportunity to reconnect with nature and indulge in the creative pursuits that the season inspires. Whether crafting keepsakes from fallen leaves, penning heartfelt reflections in your notebook, or simply enjoying a scenic hike, remember to savor every moment of this fleeting season. Autumn is a reminder that change is beautiful; embrace it thoroughly and let it enhance your appreciation for the world around you.
