Picture this: a cozy Valentine's Day lunch at Panera Bread, a warm fire, a bread bowl of delicious broccoli cheddar soup, and -- an engagement ring.
This is what Panera Bread wants from us, people. Pop the question at your local neighborhood cafe, and in return, they'll enter each engaged couple in a sweepstakes to win a wedding catering package, valued at $2,000. I could think of worst proposals, honestly (and certainly better ones, too!). But doesn't being part of a sweepstakes kind of "cheapen" the special question? Why do I feel like this is going to ruin relationships? I mean, what if a guy has NO idea this sweepstakes is going on, and he takes his girl there for just a low-key lunch? All the while, she's thinking she's going to get proposed to! And when it doesn't happen, she's bound to get all hurt and disappointed! Oy.
Anyway, in case you're so inclined, the instructions are as follows: Get engaged at a Panera Bread location between 9 a.m. ET and 11:59 p.m. ET on Wednesday, February 14. Share a photo on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook, using #PaneraProposalSweeps. Five winning couples will be randomly selected within seven days.
Also, the catered wedding must take place within 30 miles of a Panera, and before December 31, 2019. For more information on the sweepstakes, check out the Panera Bread website.
So, like with everything, we've thought of a loophole, just in case getting engaged at Panera is not everything you've hoped and dreamed -- but a soup-and-sandwich-catered wedding IS:
Get engaged in advance, then re-enact the whole thing at the Panera down the street: "So, honey, now that you've said 'yes,' I really have my heart set on Panera catering our wedding. 'Mind if we go down the street and stage this whole engagement thing again?"
