The Denver City Council will decide on Monday whether to approve the proposed redevelopment changes for Ball Arena. If approved, the changes will be subject to a public hearing on October 21.
The plans include changes to the 55-acre space surrounding the arena, including a new neighborhood with office and retail space, housing, and a park. In addition, Kronke Sports and Entertainment will be building a recreation center.
"It's rare to find 55-acres under visionary ownership in a city with such potential," said Kroenke Sports and Entertainment (KSE) on its official redevelopment website. "This site embraces the goals outlined in community-led, adopted plans by the city, notably the Denver Downtown Area Plan Amendment and Central Platte Valley Auraria Standards and Guidelines, including recognizing the pressing need for affordable housing. As a result, we have the potential to generate a truly unique regional destination characterized as mixed-use neighborhood made accessible to benefit not just the surrounding communities, but the entire city."
The new development site is between the University of Colorado Denver's Auraria Campus, Elitch Gardens, Lower Downtown, and the South Platte River.

It aims to create a sustainable community, a connected neighborhood, and more.
"The KSE-Ball Arena Redevelopment must acknowledge the needs of the nearby neighborhoods - notably affordable housing—and complement them, not compete with them," said KSE. "Offering amazing connections across Speer Boulevard, Auraria Parkway and the CML/Light Rail line will inspire, promote innovation and solidify our amazing downtown community."
