JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After a quick pause in storm activity tonight, rain is expected to return with more rounds popping up through the week.

Southern Georgia and the Brunswick area, in particular, are forecast to see showers beyond the setting sun tonight. Most areas will stay dry through the night.

Tuesday afternoon brings a 40% chance of scattered showers, mainly to areas south of Jax during the day followed by evening storms from Duval and into Georgia by the evening.

On Wednesday, Jacksonville stays in a westerly steering flow, which means any midweek showers that pop up should be widely scattered and may drift back toward the coast—especially for southern Georgia, where heavier rain totals are expected.

Temperature trends show a modest break from the heat

While rain chances step up, the thermometer backs down just slightly. Monday night is shaping up to be steamy and balmy, with temperatures mostly in the 70s and little overnight cooling. Tuesday’s highs are expected to reach the lower 90s—still hot, but not quite as intense as last week’s mid-to-upper 90s.

As showers increase in coverage Thursday and Friday, temperatures are likely to drop in the upper 80s by Friday and Saturday.

A cold front moving into Georgia on Thursday and Friday is expected to increase moisture and push rain chances higher for those days. Once the front slides south into the weekend, computer models show dropping rain chances for Northeast Florida.
