One of my personal favorite Colorado facts, the trademark for the name Cheeseburger was awarded in 1935 to Denver resident Louis Ballast.

Katherine Lee Bates was inspired to write the beautiful song throughout her journey to Colorado Springs, but it wasn’t until she saw the Great Plains from the summit of Pikes Peak that the words began forming in her mind.

One of my personal favorite Colorado facts, because people tend to forget we have anything other than mountains here! The dunes reach as high as 750 feet and span 46,000 acres.
Colorado has more microbreweries per capita than any other state.

At the end of 2013, there were 2,768 microbreweries in our fine state. It’s really no wonder - beer brewed at a mile high really does taste better!
Colorado is the only state in history to turn down the Olympics.

Denver was supposed to host the 1976 Olympics, but at the last minute 62% of voters decided not to host them. They cited cost, pollution, and a population boom as reasons not to host it. We do still have the National Olympic Training Center, though!
We’re home to the nation’s largest natural hot spring pool.
