A historic winter storm that prompted rare Winter Storm Warnings across North Florida and the Panhandle dumped sleet, snow and freezing rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, shattering the Sunshine State's snowfall record that had stood for 130 years .

By late Tuesday, Pensacola reported 7.6 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service. Nearby Milton, though, had an official total of 8.8 inches. Totals in other Panhandle areas could be even higher.

Tallahassee recorded 1.9 inches of frozen precipitation, mostly sleet.

Jacksonville, which had not seen measurable snow in 35 years , was limited to a trace of sleet or snow in some areas, leading to disappointment for some after many schools and businesses closed for the day and Jacksonville International Airport shut down before reopening at noon on Wednesday.
