Investigators have identified the skeletal remains of a Virginia Beach man who was first reported missing seven months ago.

The man, Martrell Andre Lamar, was 42 years old. He was originally reported missing from Knotts Island, North Carolina, by the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office.

An official statement from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation says the Virginia Beach Police Department is holding two suspects in custody in connection to Lamar’s killing.

His remains were found in Pasquotank County, a few miles from Elizabeth City, by a hunter in December, the Bureau said.

Investigators with the bureau then identified Lamar by comparing samples of area missing persons’ families and his with assistance from East Carolina University.

No more information was immediately available. The Virginia Beach Police Department is now leading the investigation.
