New Orleans residents are familiar with watching Margaret Orr track hurricanes, but now they will get a chance to watch the local icon take the center stage.

The retired WDSU chief meteorologist will perform in a production of the classic, women-in-prison musical "Chicago" for one night only Thursday at the Saenger Theatre.

Orr said it was "so cool" to be up on stage during a rehearsal Wednesday at the historic venue.

"I remember going there as a child. I always thought it the most beautiful Theater ever," Orr said in an email. "Loved looking up at the stars on the ceiling. Never thought I would be up on that stage."

murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, adultery, and treachery – all those things we all hold near and dear to our hearts."

Her response?

"Of course I would!!!"

Orr, who retired in March 2024 after four decades with the NBC affiliate, will also post photos and videos of her process getting ready for her big debut on her Instagram page , according to a post from the Saenger's accounts.

"Chicago" runs through Sunday at the Saenger Theater, 1111 Canal St.

The curtain is set to rise for Thursday show at 7:30 p.m. with tickets available for purchase at the Saenger's website.

Orr said she will get a special introduction and take part in the curtain call.

"I’ve gotten lots of advice," she said, "mainly don’t mess it up!"
