Revlon, the well-known cosmetics manufacturer, has confirmed plans to shut down its production facility on Jacksonville's Westside leading to the displacement of 127 workers. The process of layoffs is slated to commence on July 18 and will unfurl over the following three months. Citing the necessity to "streamline our business operations to ensure the long-term sustainability of our company," the notice reflects the company's strategy moving forward, as reported by the First Coast News .

The pending closure marks the end of an era for Revlon's presence at 5344 Overmyer Dr, where operations have run for several decades. According to a News4Jax report, the decision is embedded in efforts to ensure the cosmetic giant's viability, a significant concern following the company's entry into bankruptcy protection in the previous year, 2022.

This development comes approximately one year after the makeup conglomerate filed for bankruptcy protection, casting uncertainty over its long-term future. Founded in New York City in 1932 by Charles and Joseph Revson, alongside Charles Lachman, the 90-year-old company has been a fixture in the beauty products industry for the better part of a century. Revlon has offered affected employees the chance to seek available opportunities at other company locations, as mentioned in the notices given to workers.

The shut down of the Jacksonville facility not only affects current employees but also draws to a close a significant chapter in the company's history. The site, which has been operational for roughly 60 years, represents more than just a workplace for many—it's a symbol of Revlon's longstanding industry presence. "The decision to terminate these operations is to streamline our business operations to ensure the long-term sustainability of our company," Revlon's notice states, according to an article by Action News Jax .
