Three Macomb County cheer squads participated in this past weekend’s competitive cheer state championships at McGuirk Arena at Central Michigan. The Richmond Blue Devils took bronze in the Division 3 state cheer finals on Saturday, Feb. 1. Their round scores of 232, 229.12 and 317.6 were third best in their respective windows. Finishing just one spot beneath their rivals was Armada, who put up scores of 229, 226.26 and 314.7, each of which were fourth-best in their round except for the second, which was fifth-best. Notre Dame Prep finished as the D3 champ, with Grosse Ile taking second. Beneath Richmond and Armada were Howard City Tri-County, Charlotte, Gladstone and Portland. In the Division 1 competition, Dakota scored 233 in the first round (eighth), 227.3 in the second (seventh) and 316 in the third (seventh) on their way to an eighth place finish in Division 1 on Saturday, March 1. Stoney Creek, Rochester, Rochester Adams, Hartland, Brighton, Grandville and Rockford finished ahead of the Cougars in the final standings.
