RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Police Department, Richmond Police Department and Richmond Fire Marshal are investigating after a dumpster fire just outside of the school’s Monroe Park campus was determined to be set intentionally.

VCU Police and Richmond Police officers responded to a report of an active dumpster fire at an apartment complex at 707 West Cary Street at around 5:49 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, according to VCU Police .

Richmond Fire Department crews were able to extinguish the fire shortly after arriving at the scene. There was no damage reported to nearby structures.

The Richmond Fire Marshal is investigating this incident as arson. Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to call VCU Police at 804-828-1234.
