Richmond Heights has been seeing a lot of changes over the past few years, like the demolition of the Richmond Town Square Mall. To be able to see the changes, especially at night, lights are needed and that is something Director of Economic & Community Development Chelsey Kovar and Police Chief Calvin Williams have been working on. During a Safety Committee earlier this month, Williams gave an update to the ongoing Street Lighting project, saying that the city will need a little more time to figure out the costs associated with adding new lights, and specifically, where they should be. “The Lighting Project is still ongoing,” Williams told the committee. “I have partnered with… Chelsey Kovar and we have, basically, surveyed most of the city, about two-thirds of the city, as for as what’s needed for lights, whether its infrastructure, just lights themselves, LED changes, things like that.” Williams said that because the city has different types of streets, they will need to get an estimate of how the costs will change when they go to switch them over to new lighting. He added that the process was ongoing, but that information should be available by the end of the month. “We have already received, I think I reported last time, an estimate on what our average side streets would cost to be fitted with the infrastructure such as the arms themselves for the light poles, the light fixtures, the connectivity with the lines, the transformers and all that,” Williams said. “Really, I think a pretty decent price for that size of a street, so we are going to get that type of estimate on the other three variations of streets that we have in the city that need additional lighting.”
