Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker just announced a partnership for constructing a large-scale supplier park in Normal, Illinois. The 1.2 million-square-foot development project represents an investment of nearly $120 million by Rivian and is projected to generate approximately 100 new jobs directly, with hundreds more to follow once suppliers are established in the park. The construction, already in progress, is anticipated to reach completion in 2026, as per the news released by the Illinois Government . "In Illinois, we aren't just making electric vehicles: we are creating an entire ecosystem - attracting investments, bolstering our workforce, and strengthening the EV manufacturing supply chain," Governor JB Pritzker said, outlining the potential for this development to attract global suppliers to Illinois. Reflecting on this investment, Rivian's Founder and CEO, RJ Scaringe, noted the supplier park as a "key enabler to increasing production at the plant in 2026," which will support the assembly of R1 and R2 models and their commercial vans. Scaringe conveyed his gratitude for the state's partnership, eager for the operational commencement of the new space, according to the official announcement . The new supplier park aims to centralize suppliers who will provide parts for Rivian's vehicles. These components will travel conveniently across Highway 150 to Rivian's main manufacturing facility, thus improving the supply chain's consistency and efficiency. This move strengthens Rivian's position and the state's economic prospects, with Director Kristin Richards of the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity reaffirming Illinois' commitment to building a sustainable future and supporting clean energy innovations. Backing Rivian's endeavor is a $16 million incentive package from the state, featuring a Reimagining Energy and Vehicles (REV Illinois) tax incentive worth $5 million spread over 20 years. The incentive package supports the creation of at least 93 full-time jobs and a $119.6 million investment, which aligns with the Illinois leadership's vision for the growth of the emerging clean energy production and manufacturing industry. Assistant Majority Leader Dave Koehler (D-Peoria) expressed his enthusiasm, deeming the investment as something that is "cementing Normal as a national leader in clean energy," transforming Normal into a prime spot for innovation in the electric vehicle sphere. More information on the executed Rivian agreement can be located on the DCEO website . The announcement of Rivian's $1.5 billion investment last year to construct its R2 model at the Normal facility was a prelude to this development, signifying a notable expansion in the electric vehicle sector for Illinois. It charts a course for the state's clean energy manufacturing and elevates the state's ambitions for an era where electric vehicles and renewables are in the driving seat of growth and job creation. The REV Illinois program plays a vital role in this vision, offering incentives for companies within the electric vehicle and renewables industry to grow or relocate to Illinois, hence fostering a comprehensive ecosystem around EV manufacturing.
