KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Following a multi-week stint with the Kansas City Royals, veteran catcher Luke Maile has been designated for assignment. The Royals announced that Maile had been DFA’d on Monday, with right-handed reliever Taylor Clarke returning to the team from the paternity list. Maile becomes the second player Kansas City has designated for assignment in the last two days, with veteran reliever Chris Stratton losing his roster spot on Sunday. The 34-year-old catcher began the season in Triple-A Omaha for Kansas City and was called up to the big-league club several weeks ago. He appeared in three games for the Royals during his time in Kansas City, which represented the 10th MLB season of his career. Maile homered for Kansas City during a 7-home run performance for the Royals on Sunday, May 4, against the Baltimore Orioles. Clarke, a 32-year-old reliever, has a 0.00 ERA in five games this season for the Royals.
