The wife of a Massachusetts firefighter and their newborn twins will be taken off life support on Friday after a heartbreaking medical saga. Patrick Sullivan, who served the town of Rutland as a dispatch supervisor and firefighter and EMT for 13 years, and his wife, Ciara, were expecting twins when she suffered a medical emergency. Town officials said Ciara required intubation and the babies were delivered via emergency C-section. The babies spent several days on ventilators "with a grim prognosis," officials said . Meanwhile, Ciara underwent an MRI to assess the possibility of brain damage. Her condition and the condition of the twins were described by officials as "critical" on Christmas eve. Tragically, officials announced on Thursday night that Ciara and the infants would all be taken off life support on Friday. "Please keep Pat and the entire family in your prayers during this unimaginably difficult time," officials wrote. An online fundraiser for the family has raised more than $63,000.
