Check the brand of cheese in your fridge; Sargento recalls cheese due to a possible listeria contamination.

Sargento released this past weekend that two very popular cheeses have been recalled due to a possible contamination. The recall affects their Chef Blends Shredded Nacho and Taco Cheese, as well as their Ultra-Thin Sliced Longhorn Colby. Listeriosis is a very serious infection that can be potentially fatal. According to the Center for Disease Control, symptoms include fever, gastrointestinal problems, diarrhea, and/or muscle aches. This is particularly dangerous for the elderly and pregnant women. All of the cheese was packaged in Plymouth, Wisconsin, but Sargento is going to err on the side of caution and recall five other products as well. These products are as follows; Off the Block Shredded Fine Cut Colby-Jack Cheese, Chef Blends Shredded Taco Cheese, Sliced Colby-Jack Cheese, Sliced Pepper Jack Cheese, and Off the Block Shredded Fine Cut Cheddar Jack Cheese. There are no confirmed cases yet, but Sargento suggests that if you are curious to see if your cheese has been recalled, visit their website here and enter the product's UPC number as well as the expiration date. If your cheese has been recalled, you can call 1-800-CHEESES for a full reimbursement. Sargento states, “The safety of our consumers and our employees is our top priority at Sargento and at the very heart of all we do.”
