COLUMBIA — An S.C. Department of Corrections supervisor is accused of groping an inmate's "intimate parts" while on a work detail in a food service warehouse on Broad River Road.

Ainsworth Atkins, 46, of Columbia was arrested May 5 and charged with two counts of second-degree sexual misconduct with an inmate.

According to arrest warrants, Atkins was working as the sole supervising authority over the inmate on Nov. 12, 2024, when he groped her buttocks and breasts over her clothing. After an investigation, Atkins confessed to crimes.

He has since been fired, the state said.
