PHOENIX — A splashpad and indoor playground are coming to Scottsdale’s McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park this July during its 50th-anniversary year, a Wednesday press release announced. The railroad park, situated just north of Scottsdale Stadium, will unveil a 5,000-square-foot splashpad this summer. The addition was “
the most requested enhancement ,” a part of the recreation center’s $13.1 million project approved by Scottsdale voters in 2019, according to the release. The indoor playground known as the Roundhouse will be featured inside of a new 10,000-square-foot building. Guests, young and old, will have the chance to learn about railroad history by playing inside a mostly-transparent train structure.
Other new attractions at Scottsdale railroad park
Besides the splashpad and indoor playground, McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park will open a new entry plaza adjacent to the existing Stillman Station. It will offer seating, a gallery of public art, new restrooms and newly planted trees. The campus’ outdoor playground was renovated in January and enhanced with new swings, slides, shade awnings and a “mini stationary train.”
Scottsdale park hoping to boost tourism
The railroad park — a ride along the Paradise & Pacific Railroad still being its biggest draw — experiences great attendance between the months of October and April, but said it hopes to boost summer tourism with new attractions. According to the city of Scottsdale, McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park generates about $2.5 million while serving about 1 million guests per year. On Oct. 4-5, the park will host
Railfair 2025 to commemorate its opening back on Oct. 4, 1975. More details will be released at a later date.
