LILBURN, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The search for missing people doesn’t stop during the holidays. A Georgia man is training local law enforcement on how to find lost residents living with Alzheimer’s and dementia. DeKalb County resident Rosa Mae Dawson has been missing since Nov. 13. Georgia Emergency Search and Rescue volunteer John Clark has been part of the crew searching for her. “My grandparents both died of Alzheimer’s, and that was 20 years ago. I was looking for some way to help people,” said Clark. He also volunteers with the Alzheimer’s Association , using his knowledge to help officers locate missing people battling mental health decline. “When we have missing persons with Alzheimer’s or Dementia his team will go out if they are called by family or first responders- they will go out and do a search,” said Kim Franklin with the Alzheimer’s Association. The holidays can be especially hard, as some patients are outside of their memory care facilities. “Right now, we are reaching cold temperatures with Thanksgiving and Christmas, where time is of the essence,” said Angel Alonso with Georgia Emergency Search and Rescue. “The feeling that you get when you reunite lost people with their families and their loved ones you can’t put words to that and you can’t put a price tag on that,” said Carmen Alonso with Georgia Emergency Search and Rescue.
