Several local athletes had great showings late last week at the IHSA Class 1A and 2A high school boys
state track and field sectionals, with Abingdon-Avon’s Carter Stroot having a particularly great day. Stroot won the 100-, 200- and 400-meter runs at the Class 1A Kewanee Wethersfield sectional, qualifying for the state meet, scheduled for May 29-31 (Thursday through Saturday) in Charleston. In the Class 1A Deer Creek-Mackinaw sectional, Astoria’s Avery Fawcett also won the 200 and finished second in the 100 and 400.
