The State Emergency Management Agency is responding to storm damage reports across Missouri over the weekend. Mike O’Connell with the Department of Public Safety says regional coordinators are teaming with local workers to explore areas damaged by tornadoes, severe storms, and heavy rainfall. “We know we had a lot of flash flooding. We have still dozens, scores of roads that are closed around the state because of high water and the flooding,” he told Missourinet. “(The) good news is the power outages are down. Power is being restored.” The National Weather Service’s preliminary results have confirmed an EF2 tornado struck New Bloomfield and an EF1 tornado hit Columbia in mid Missouri on Easter Sunday. It has also confirmed an EF0 tornado in Greene County on Friday. “The National Weather Service will have their teams out, you know, assessing what happened,” O’Connell said. “They can figure out whether it was a tornado or just straight-line winds. So, they’re doing that.” He lists other communities hit on Easter Sunday. “Barton County, (the) Lamar area was hit. We know that we had some houses and businesses that had damage,” he said. “(The) Carl Junction area in Jasper County was hit hard. We know that they had five or 10 or more homes with roof damage, (a) mobile home destroyed. O’Connell said so far there have not been any requests for state or federal aid from Sunday’s storms. Only one minor injury has been reported so far. MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map shows several roads closed in southwest Missouri, as well as a few in southern, southeast, west-central and northeast Missouri.
