One person was shot, and a man was in custody following a shooting at a hospital in Scottsdale. The suspect was originally brought in by a family member as a potential patient at the hospital, Scottsdale police said. The shooting occurred in the HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center emergency room around 1 p.m. Sunday, Scottsdale police said in a post on X , formerly known as Twitter. While inside the ER, the patient and a security guard got into a fight that escalated to a shooting. The unidentified man shot the security guard in the upper body, police said. Hospital security and staff helped subdue the patient and disarm him. A handgun was found at the scene, according to police. The person who was shot is expected to survive their injuries. The shooting was an isolated incident, police emphasized. Hospital grounds were secured, and the hospital was still accepting patients. Only a small section of the emergency room was affected by the ongoing investigation, police said. A minor injury was reported by a second security guard. "Extending our gratitude to the Scottsdale Police Department for their swift and professional response today," a post on X from HonorHealth read. No further information, including the suspect's identity, was released and the investigation is ongoing. The medical center is located near Shea Boulevard and 90th Street in Scottsdale.
