KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A winter storm warning has been issued for a wide swath of the Kansas City area.

As meteorologists continue to monitor snowfall, many school districts and organizations have canceled for Wednesday, Feb. 12.

Check back throughout the morning for the latest updates.

UPDATE, 10 a.m. | The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, has delayed residential trash and recycling collection due to the inclement weather.

Wednesday collection has been shifted to Thursday, Thursday collection has been shifted to Friday, and Friday collection has been shifted to Saturday.

UPDATE, 9:47 a.m. | KSHB 41's Lindsey Anderson says most of the accumulating snow has wrapped up across the region, though some light showers may continue through early afternoon.

That's allowing crews to get a handle on road conditions across the area.

RideKC says public transit service is hanging in there Wednesday morning.

UPDATE, 8:40 a.m. | Vehicles must be removed from Edgerton city streets.

Edgerton Public Works declared a snow event on Feb. 12 after the city received more than 2 inches of snow overnight.

All vehicles must be removed from city streets within 2 hours, under city code .

If your vehicle is not removed, the sheriff’s office may be called and vehicles may be towed at the owner’s expense.

The city declares a snow event any time more than 2 inches of snow falls. Vehicles must be moved to allow plows to navigate narrow streets and more effectively remove snow.

Plow crews are working 12-hour shifts. Drivers should give plows extra space.

UPDATE, 8:05 a.m. | The Kansas Legislature is closed today; committee meetings will be held virtually.

UPDATE, 8 a.m. | Union Station and attractions are closed today.

UPDATE, 7:50 a.m. | RideKC and Joco Transit will resume routes.

Modified service: Routes to Resume. The following fixed routes will resume service at 9 am: 401, 403, 404, 475, 487. The 402, 495, 510, 520, 563 & 569 are canceled. All routes are expected to resume normal service on February 13, 2025.

UPDATE, 6:45 a.m. | Meteorologist Lindsey Anderson says the snow will stick around into the afternoon.

Due to inclement weather and hazardous road conditions, all routes are currently paused. We will reevaluate conditions at 8 AM.

UPDATE, 6:30 a.m. | Claire Bradshaw is live in Stormtracker, She says roads are snow-packed in Jackson County and travel is slow.

UPDATE, 6:10 a.m. | KCI currently lists only one Southwest Airlines flight arriving from Dallas at 8 a.m. has been canceled. All departures from KCI are currently as scheduled, but check flykc.com if you have travel plans today.

UPDATE, 5:50 a.m. | KSHB 41 meteorologist Lindsey Anderson says to avoid travel if you can.

UPDATE, 5:15 a.m. | KSHB 41's Claire Bradshaw says roads are completely covered on 71 Highway and Three Trails Crossing.

HWY71 - snowpacked. You lose visibility of the vehicles in front of you pretty quickly. It’s really functioning as 2 lanes instead of 3 since people can’t see the lines.

UPDATE, 5:10 a.m. | KSHB 41's traffic reporter Daniela Leon says Gardner's visibility is very limited.

UPDATE, 5:05 a.m.| The Ottawa Police Department says roads are snow-covered with heavy snow falling.

UPDATE, 5 a.m. | Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Ben says the interstate is snow-packed in western Kansas.

UPDATE, 6:45 p.m. | A winter storm warning is now in effect in the Kansas City area as freezing drizzle has begun.

The freezing drizzle could impact road conditions tonight.

UPDATE, 5:15 p.m. | KSHB 41's Jeff Penner just checked in from outside our studios near the Country Club Plaza and spotted a few flurries. He says it's possible we'll see a dusting by midnight, with additional snow later into Wednesday.

UPDATE, 5 p.m. | Kansas City, Missouri, officials say they have activated their 400-person Snow Team ahead of Wednesday's snowfall. Crews began treating roads with salt and Ice Ban Monday morning. Once snowfall is underway, crews will transition to plowing operations.

KCMO City Hall will be closed to the public on Wednesday. Employees will work remotely.

Bulky item pickup services have been canceled for Feb. 12-13. More information is available on the city's website .

Overland Park says their crews will be mobilizing at midnight at the Dennis Garrett Public Works Facility and the Blue Valley Public Works facility.

The Unified Government of Kansas City, Kansas, and Wyandotte County said Tuesday afternoon that UG buildings — including City Hall — will be closed Wednesday.

Schools in KCK will be canceled on Wednesday.

UPDATE, 4:40 p.m. | The Olathe School District has also notified parents of no school on Wednesday, Feb. 12. Wednesday had previously been scheduled as a half-day for students.

Parent-teacher conferences that had been scheduled for Wednesday will be moved to Wednesday, Feb. 19.

Jackson County, Missouri, offices will have a delayed start of 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

UPDATE, 4:30 p.m. | Kansas City Municipal Court will hold virtual hearings on Wednesday, but the walk-in docket will be rescheduled and the building closed.

The Harry S. Truman Library and Museum will be closed Wednesday.

UPDATE, 4:20 p.m. | The University of Kansas Medical Center says it will close its Kansas City, Kansas, campus on Wednesday. The University of Kansas Hospital will be operating as normal.

Kansas State University plans to close its Manhattan campus on Wednesday.
