Bright and early Monday morning, the National Weather Service out of Wakefield alerted Virginia residents about a potential significant weather storm to take place on Wednesday and Thursday. It predicted it will affect areas south of I-64 and east of I-95. "Heavy snow (6”+) will be the main hazard, but some icing is possible across NE NC. There is uncertainty with respect to exact magnitude/placement of the heaviest snow. Snow amounts WILL change with future forecasts. Winter Storm Watches will likely be issued this afternoon," the US National Weather Service Wakefield VA on Facebook stated. Monday afternoon, NWS Wakefield issued a winter storm watch estimating the snow totals could be as high as eight inches in some spots. On Monday, I took a peek at NWS's detailed 7-day Petersburg forecast . For Wednesday, it stated that snow will mainly fall after 10 a.m., and it could be heavy at times. The high will be near 29, and the northeast wind will be around 8 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90%. A snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches is possible. The Wednesday night forecast stated snow will mainly fall before 4 a.m. The low temperature will be around 21, and the chance of precipitation is 80%. For Thursday, there is a chance of snow before 10 a.m. The sun may warm things up a bit during the day, however, the high is predicted to only be near 33. The chance of precipitation is 30%.
